UN Peacekeepers is the Path to Ceasefire and Ending the Civilian Deaths in Donbas

Periodically, since February 2015, Ukrainian leaders have been making statements about the need for the United Nations (UN) peacekeepers and possibly inviting the European Union’s security mission.

UN peacekeeping means that between the conflict parties there will be an international light-armed contingent wearing blue helmets and symbols of the United Nations and whose representatives will act within the framework of the mandate, first and foremost, to prevent the resumption of hostilities and new civilian casualties.

In Search of Ukraine’s “True North”


On November 21, 2015, Ukraine commemorated the second anniversary of the Revolution of Dignity and the 11th anniversary of the Orange Revolution. The Day of Dignity and Freedom, as November 21 is now known in Ukraine, should have been a day to commemorate the heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, and other victims of the fight against tyranny and oppression. Instead, the day was marked with fraud at local elections, clashes over the blockade of the Russian-occupied Crimea, and expectations of the “Third Maidan.”

Open appeal to the leadership of Donetsk National University


On 6 January the dissident and poet Vasyl Stus would have turned 78. The poet was born in Vinnytsia region, yet studied in our Donetsk National University (then the Donetsk Pedagogical Institute), which he graduated from in 1959 with honors.
